Entry to Japan
For international travelers attending ICPP14 in Kyoto (June 28–July 3, 2026), the key rules are simple:
You need a valid passport with at least one blank page, and most visitors from the U.S., Europe, Canada, Australia, and many other countries can enter Japan visa-free for up to 90 days (List of 73 exempt countries and regions).
Travelers from countries without visa exemption must apply for a short-term business visa at a Japanese embassy or consulate (VISA - Ministry of Foreign Affaires of Japan - MOFA), usually with an official invitation letter from the conference organizer.
Japan’s Visit Japan Web system allows you to complete immigration and customs forms in advance for faster arrival, and all entrants must undergo fingerprinting and facial photo capture.
No COVID-19 tests or vaccination certificates are required, and no routine vaccinations are mandated, though travel health insurance is strongly recommended.
A future online authorization system (JESTA) is planned but will not be in effect in 2026.
